This is the third advent Sunday which signifies ‘The Message’. As we look forward to the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we read in Luke 2 how the angels announced to the shepherds the good tidings and great joy for all people. The shepherds were afraid because of the presence of the angel with the glory of the Lord shining around them. But they heard the message of a very important event that was about to take place. This wondrous event so long ago changed my life and yours.
I think being afraid at the sight of the angel would be a normal reaction. I thought about some of my own fears in this age of societal turmoil, and God reminds me that He is in control. I paired this Scripture from Deuteronomy 31:8 with this deer photograph. We have a few bucks coming around the back of our property in the mornings and they are always on high alert as this one was when he heard some kind of sound. They are afraid of people (and the dogs in our neighborhood) and will bolt when threatened. Moses told the people of Israel, as they were about to cross the Jordan into the promised land, to not fear and then he told Joshua (who was to lead them over) the same truth in this passage. Fear is stifling – the Lord promised us in many verses of His word that He will never leave us or forsake us. My desire is to not let fear enter into any of my circumstances; to not give an inch to the enemy and to recall all the Lord’s promises of His faithfulness and lovingkindness. I pray you all have a blessed week!
